Thank you for helping make the first ever Camp Harmony happen.

Thank you to the families and donors who contributed to make our first ever summer camp a success! We raised $225 for Zumix and had a blast with our campers. We are looking forward to having even more fun next summer when hopefully we can plan an in-person camp! Until then we still have all sorts of fun facts, songs, and dances playing thru our memories of Camp Harmony. If you’re curious what we were up to, have a read-thru below of all the workshops we shared.

Whole Tone Music Academy invites you to join us this summer for a virtual camp experience, empowering you to “grow in self and sound.” For one week, we offer you the best from our dynamic collective of music educators. Begin your day with movement games and group singing, followed by a daily practice challenge! Meet new friends as you explore fun topics which include writing our very own camp song, yoga, ensemble skills, deep listening to nature sounds, scavenger hunts, arts and crafts, an introduction to using music technology, and so much more!

Whether you are brand new to music making or have been taking lessons for years, camp is a wonderful opportunity to expand your skillsets while having lots of fun in the process! Our daily structure is designed to facilitate the excitement that comes from participating in large groups combined with the specialized time to spend with peers during workshops. At the end of the week, campers will have an opportunity to share a unique talent at our Friday morning talent show. By the time the talent show rolls around, it is amazing to reflect upon the amazing new friendships and experiences that took place in merely a week’s time!

Thank You for Giving Us HOPE!

WTMA’s queer leadership team would like to thank everyone who has donated to the Black Trans Advocacy Coalition this past week!

We have met our $500 goal and exceeded it, so our anonymous donor has matched that in full – meaning we have raised over $1,000 for Black Trans lives!! We finished strong at $1,112.22!

Let’s keep at this work to bring healthcare, housing, and the joy of music to all, especially fellow humans who are Black, Trans, and particularly today those whose intersectional identities hold both of those quadrants!

WholeTone at First Fridays Youth Open Mic!

First Fridays Youth Open Mic invited WholeTone teacher Anaís Azul to perform as the featured artist for their March 1st event. And it was a smash!

Anaís brought along friends Sajada Domino, Rafael Natan, and fellow WholeTone teacher Nora Maynard to perform Anaís’ original music.

The Open Mic was a freeing, caring, and deep expression of humanity with so much talent and bravery on display from the folks of all ages who showed up. Folks performed songs and poems. The energy was so supportive of first timers to the Open Mic and of everyone who shared a little piece of their story with all of us in the room. It was truly remarkable.

L to R: Sajada Domino – Percussionist; Anaís Azul – Vocalist, Pianist, Ukelelist; Rafael Natan – Oboist, Vocalist; Nora Maynard – Violinist, Vocalist

Anaís started her portion of the night by improvising a song on her ukulele that reflected the stories and sentiments from the Open Mic. It was so incredible to watch and hear how she wove pieces of the evening together. Then she brought up the band to perform some of her songs, including Analysis Paralysis, Listen, and Healing. Anaís’ music brought the Open Mic to another level, showcasing her unique blend of style, skill, and heart. Lyrics and sounds from her songs are still echoing in this author’s mind.

Many thanks to the team at First Fridays Youth Open Mic for hosting the space and bringing everyone together. Rev. Darrell R. Hamilton II, Allan Griffin McClendon, and Kaleigh O’Keefe: WholeTone sees you, hears you, and holds you in our hearts. Thank you for bringing us into your framily.
